On this St. Patrick's Day ‪#‎ThowBackThursday‬ we've caught March Madness fever and we're throwing it back to 1930 and the Milwaukie Junior High basketball team - featuring Coach Rowe. I don't know about you, but I'd say these fellas could make a run at the Big Dance? Details in the comments. ‪#‎MilwaukieTBT‬ ‪#‎HistoricMilwaukie‬ ‪#‎MilwaukieJrHi‬ ‪#‎basketball‬ ‪#‎WilburDRowe‬ ‪#‎MarchMadness‬ ‪#‎StPatricksDay‬ ‪#‎TBT‬ Photo Credit: the ‪#‎MilwaukieHistoricalSociety‬ - visit them on Facebook here: http://ow.ly/UioOe ‪#‎OregonHeritage‬ Coach of the 1930 junior high basketball team was just one of the many roles Wilbur Rowe, educator, superintendent, and civic leader held in the Milwaukie community. He was a teacher and administrator in the Milwaukie and Portland school districts and he served on the Milwaukie City Council in the 1940s. This team photo was taken in front of the old Milwaukie School which sat where today’s City Hall stands. Rowe was a graduate of Monmouth Normal (Western Oregon University) and the University of Oregon. Upon his passing in 1951 a section of shelves at the Milwaukie Public Library was named in his honor. Today, Rowe’s name appears on the Children’s Library at the Ledding Library and of course on Wilbur D. Rowe Middle School – home of the Shamrocks!
