We're going, back, back, back to the... 19th century! This week's ‪#‎Milwaukie‬ ‪#‎ThrowBackThursday‬ photo captures the Monroe & Roberts General Blacksmiths Practical Horseshoeing shop (circa 1890s), which sat on the corner of 42nd Avenue and Harrison Street - where Papa Murphy's is today in the Hector Campbell Neighborhood. Owen J. Roberts, proprietor (gentleman on the left side of the doorway), not only provided specifically practical blacksmith services, he also served as the first President of the Milwaukie City Council and was the father of Mayor Fred O. Roberts and the legendary City Recorder Nell Martin. At the time of this photograph, the area was known as "The Hill" and was part of the Minthorn Addition - platted by Dr. John Henry Minthorn, who notably raised his orphaned nephew Bert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States. ‪#‎MilwaukieTBT‬ ‪#‎42ndAvenue‬ ‪#‎HarrisonStreet‬ ‪#‎Blacksmiths‬ ‪#‎Practical‬ ‪#‎Horseshoeing‬ ‪#‎Minthorn‬ ‪#‎MinthornAddition‬ ‪#‎HectorCambpell‬ ‪#‎CouncilPresident‬ ‪#‎OwenRoberts‬ ‪#‎Mayor‬ ‪#‎FredRoberts‬ ‪#‎CityRecorder‬ ‪#‎NellMartin‬ ‪#‎POTUS‬ ‪#‎HerbertHoover‬ Photo Credit: Our Partners at the ‪#‎MilwaukieHistoricalSociety‬ - visit them on Facebook here: http://ow.ly/UioOe ‪#‎OregonHeritage‬
