Happy Wednesday Milwaukie! This week we bring you a special #WayBackWednesday #ThrowBack in honor of the POW/MIA Flag Raising event tomorrow morning at 10am in front of #CityHall. There are thousands of US service members listed as MIA (Missing In Action) or as POW (Prisoners of War) and we wanted to share with you the story of one of Milwaukie's own MIA servicemen - Major Hallie W. "Bud" Smith was a 1959 graduate of #MilwaukieHigh and a 1963 graduate of #LewisandClarkCollege, who married his soul mate Judy and shipped out to Vietnam to fly reconnaissance missions for the US Air Force. In January 1968, Captain Smith (who was promoted to the rank of Major posthumously) and his co-pilot crashed in a mountainous rural area of South Vietnam, and to this day he remains MIA. In October 2015, a recovery mission was mounted and bone fragments were brought to a military lab in Hawaii for testing - results have not been made public as of this writing. In honor of Major Smith and all of the remaining POW/MIA service members - the City of Milwaukie will fly the POW/MIA Flag in front of City Hall beginning tomorrow, January 30, 2015. #MilwaukieTBT #MilwaukieWBW #POW #MIA #Veterans #Vietnam #FlagCeremony #USAF For information on tomorrow's POW/MIA Flag Raising Ceremony click here: http://ow.ly/WtxRf.
